Well - if anybody doubted that companies bullshit consumers all the time with "awesome" promotions promising you more worth for your money, I hereby present you with irrefutable proof I have stumbled upon when buying multivitamin tablets at my grocery store. It pissed me off to no end... Anyways, these are the samples - the tablets aren't produced by the same companies but trust me that this is standard packaging and thus can be compared freely. First of all I picked up some tablets by the German company Krüger - mainly because they had "+50% Gratis" written on them. So far, so nice. But then, when I came home, I got to actually compare the packaging with tablets produced by another company (I could go on and buy a standard-sized tube of tablets by Krüger to strengthen my argument but I don't think that's necessary).
So, let's go. Perhaps the tube itself is simply 50% longer than the standard one?
Hmmm... I don't think so... OK, surely there must be a 50% increase in net weight of the tablets then! You can't cheat mass...
Nope, 90 grams vs 80 grams - apparently you can't cheat mass but you can cheat WITH mass. What exactly did they mean with "+50% Gratis" then?
Ah, the mystery is solved!
We have 30 tablets instead of the regular 20... Waaaait a minute - that's bullshit? We already determined that the mass is only 12% larger... So, let's look at the tablets themselves:
WHAT THE FUCK? The ones on the right are much slimmer than the regular ones and have huge concave indentations on both sides! Well - there are no miracles and we already established that we didn't have any huge increase in mass or package dimensions so this is the only way that could have worked... What makes me even more sad is that you can't really do anything about it because the company can always claim that they simply meant an increase in the number of tablets, even though it's completely irrelevant when it comes to the amount of product you're getting... I'm flabbergasted that it paid off for Krüger to alter the manufacturing lines to produce such "half-baked" tablets to bullshit people with their marketing campaign... -.-
