Murphy and me, vol. 2

Wednesday I received a call from the shop that the server was ready. Yahoo! Yesterday I went to the shop to pick the server up. Had the guy’s in the shop show to me that it was all working and all looked pretty good! 2 detected CPU’s, keyboard working etc, nice! Back at home Murphy came looking around the corner again…. I connected my PS/2 keyboard, and it appeared to not be working… No panic thought, I had a brand new spare one.. And it worked! First thing I had to do was install VMware. This went quickly and smoothly, first victory! Once VMware was installed, it was time to reboot the machine… Now it presented me with an error, NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND…. Rebooted back into the bios, found the cause, the HDD was not in the BOOT list. No problem, I thought… We can just add it. Now it turned out, you had to add the device using your ‘-/+’ key’s on the right side of your numpad. Turns out, my working PS/2 keyboard did NOT have a numpad… ARGH! So, after trying and trying, once more jumped into the car and drove to a shop to buy a cheap ass PS/2 keyboard. Once at home I connected it, changed the boot priority, and rebooted the machine. VICTORY! It worked! Now it was time to configure VMware so I could start installing Linux and Windows. I was completely amazed of the awesomeness of this piece of software! I had planned to write a blog today dedicated to my VMware experience including all sorts of neat screenshots and stuff. Last night I finished installing both OS’ses and powered off the server to continue with it today from work. This morning I booted up the server before I left to work. Unfortunately, Murphy apparently woke up early as well, and started to bug me again. The server booted, only to present me with the lovely error ‘NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND’… Aaaarrgghh!! I've quickly checked the BIOS if the boot priority was still correct, which it was… The HDD was listed as only boot device…. After a couple of restarts, still no joy. I had to leave for work, so I no longer had any time to check out the rest… Hopefully when I return tonight from work it magically fixed itself, all thought I’m afraid I’ll have to do another bug hunt to figure out what the next issue is we’re running into… To be continued… P.s. Besides all the negative, I do have to say the hardware looks and feels totally awesome, and I am completely blown away by VMware ESX, so hopefully once I fixed the small issue’s, I can present you with some nice and cool (news) blogs :D
