I have tried getting myself to play the demo more, but after 5 minutes of gaming, I close the game again. My problem is not the gameplay modes or the graphics, both are very nice... It's the feeling I get from the game. For some reason, the developers havedecided to keep the gameplay in the same fast-pace as CoD4. The problem with this is that it's not a modern day, but a WWII shooter. In my book, all WWII games should be about overcoming great obstacles as well as your own fear. The old CoD games displayed this very nicely. You got a feeling of grandness, and that your life would end if you left the trench you were currently taking cover in. In CoD:WaW the game seems more focused around storming ahead and killing your opponents before they realise what is going on, not the kind of gameplay I would expect from a WWII shooter.
Another thing that bothers me, is that the developers have decided to keep the weapons upgrades from CoD4. This means that you can now get silencers for your M1 Garand... In my opinions, all weapon upgrades and perks should be removed, afterall in WWII, you got whatever the army could spare you and nothing else.
CoD:WaW was one of my most anticipated games this year, just after Darkfall Online. But as things look now, I might not even buy it!

Re: Call of Duty: World at War
10. August 2009 - 20:13 — [SpA]ProtectMyBallsI played the game and very much enjoyed it, though i never got online with it... weirdly there were no servers for it?!?! however, one of the best things it took away from COD4 other than the amazing engine (thou some how Treyarch managed to mess up the AI a bit) was an emersive story line (not as much as COD4) but still interesting to say the least. I agree with the idea of the perks and stuff, sounds a bit too much.
Really think you should give this a full play, its not long and some of the levels are intense, the level inside an old gunner plane is awesome, the flamethrower PFX is pretty special, and plus its got GARY OLDMAN doing VO!!!
You are quite right about the pacing but to be fair, none of us were in the war and im sure it was very kill or be killed in certain circumstances, the old black and white footage of the war seems to tame it down a bit and makes it all look quite civil but i bet it was far from that. My company i work for did the PS2 port and that had more of the slow pacing and less gun ho attitude, but that is also due to it being on an older platform.
Try and find it cheap or borrow it if you can, its worth at least one play through just for ending at least. :)
if not just be patient, only a few more months till MW2!!!!!!!
