I told you that you shouldn't park here! It's not often that I change my opinion about a game after playing another 10 hours, but Far Cry 2 seems to be the exception that confirms the rule.
Sure, the you need to travel way too much, and sure most of the missions are alike, but it's once you look at the details, the game become a bit interesting.
Do a few side-missions for the gun-shop, and the amount of weapons available to you will increase. Do it enough times, and you get access to the flame-thrower. You will quickly learn that amolotov cocktail or an explosion can set off huge fires, but imagine running around with a flamethrower.... Never has killing been so much fun; force an enemy to take cover behind a tree, then run around the treein a huge circle, firing downwards with the flamethrower, then step back and watch the flames slowly engulf your foe. Basically, everything can beset on fire, and some bases can be taken over by jumping around outside them, throwing in molotov cocktails.
A major problem is that most missions follow the same pattern:
- Get the mission.
- A buddy magically knows about your mission and immidietly calls you with another mission you have to do first.
- You do your buddy's mission (Which is mostly about infiltrating a small base).
- You do the original mission (Which is always about infiltrating a base).
- Your buddy immidietly knows that your mission is complete, and tells you to rendevouz with him.
- You meet with you buddy, who is under heavy enemy fire.
- You save him.
- Go to 1!
When you reach act II, though, the missions no longer seems to repetitive, mostly because the bases you have to infiltrate are now much more varied in layout, and because the missions are now significantly harder to complete. In addition to this, the travel times seems to have decreased alot and it seems like there is longer between checkpoints (points where you have to kill everyone before you can continue).
So for now, I am intrigued by the game, and intend to complete it. I just hope that there is some real FPS waiting for me in the end!
