Testing out the mods promoted to steam

Last friday I decided to haul my computer up at Taiko's. The idea was to game Synergy and Insurgency all weekend. After just half an hour on Synergy we gave up; the many long loading periods were too much. I convinced Taiko to play Insurgency with me. I have always been pretty good at the game and loved it, whereas Taiko has been very poor at it, and thus hated it. I told him to stick close to me and not just run off in any direction and soon he started enjoying the game for how much teamplay-focused it was. In order to not grow tired of the game, I altered between playing that and Age of Chivalry. Taiko wasn't interested in Age of Chivalry, so whenever I loaded that up, he started Ceaser IV.

I believe that Insurgency will make an awesome game, should the team behind the mod decide to follow up.
While I do find Age of Chivalry pretty fun to play, I know that I will also grow tired of it very fast. I mostly play the game as a "warm up" for the release of Darkfall Online later this year. Synergy has added something that HL2 SHOULD have had from the start, nothing else. Although it is interesting to play HL2 in co-op mode, the long loading times ruins the mod.

As the weekend drew to an end, I decided to also check up on the other mods that had recently been promoted to steam.
D.I.P.R.I.P. might appeal to some people, I just found it to be a cheap ripoff off an old playstation game, which I don't remember the name of, but if I say "Grinning clown car", you should know which game I'm thinking of.
I found Zombie Panic to have very poor level design, although the gameplay was.... interesting. It will probably be a mod that dies fast though, with the upcoming release of Left 4 Dead!

I need you as my insurgency

I need you as my insurgency guide tbh! Tried out the game again over the weekend, and all i accomplished was getting shot in the face each corner i turned around :(

lol

Taiko can relate to that ;)

I really love games with so

I really love games with so much teamplay, after your story, I'd be in for a night of testing as well!

Ican show u Saint :P

Downloaded Insurgency yesterday, and played already several hours, cant understand ur problems, its like BF2, but the vehicles and grosshairs are missing. ;) The only problem I had yesterday were the teamkilling, because they look all the same. But today I noticed that one party is wearing helmety and the other not. Another problem fixed for ultimate Insurgency gaming experience. :D Btw, I enjoy playing it atm, as an alternative for TF2 and 1.6.

I can show u Saint :)

I downloaded Insurgency yesterday, and I´m enjoying it as an alternative to TF2 and 1.6. Btw, whats ur problem saint? Its pretty much like BF2, without vehicles, and without any crosshair. :P But after I found out how to difference the 2 partys (the helmet wearing ones and the ones without helmet) its actually pretty neat to play.

Well, my main problem is not

Well, my main problem is not having a radar. I totally get lost all the time, even when i try to stick with a team mate. Perhaps i just need to dedicate some more time to learning one of the maps! Maybe a Insurgency intro day would be an idea for all of us who never played it, then its noob vs noob and actually enjoyable :D

cp_steel

That reminds me of my first round on cp_steel => totally lost! ;) Now I love that map. :D

At first...

... I was lost too. :) But everytime I didnt know where to go I simply pressed m for map, and tried to figure out where I was. At the map u can also see which party owns which spot, so u know where to go to defend or to attack. If u dont know where to go still, ur squadleader will tell u, because, as u may regognized, there are green and red letters appearing around u. These letters show the capping points, if u r constantly running in the direction of one of them u will, sooner or earlier ;), reach the cap. U will recognize ur squadleaders order either in the box at the top right corner, saying for example "Defend Alpha School" or "Attack Delta Radar" and u will see 2 crossed swords at the letters around u. :P It sounds difficult, but if you are ingame u will see. ;) I could go on explaining, but if u r planning such a "testing night" or whatever, just tell me, or if u see me playing join me. :P
