Left4Dead 2 – 9 versus 9 madness

We have launched a heavily modified L4D2 server providing space for up to 18 players simultaneously .

The server can be best explained as some sort of L4D2 / TF2 alike combo were you can join and leave as you please. By leaving in the middle of a campaign you do not mess up the game for the other players as would happen in a normal versus game.

The game is modified to spawn more zombies per horde (60), spawn super tanks (around 12000 HP), permit special infected selection, and more to make the game difficulty challenging enough.

You can connect to the server in several ways;

1) Join our steam community group, and in L4D2 choose ‘Steam group servers’ in the L4D2 main menu. In the list search for the “9vs9 SpecialAttack.net :: L4D2 Super” server.

2) Click this link in windows

3) Connect directly using your console: “connect 85.17.60.96:29034”

4) Ask a friend to connect and join trough steam friends.

If a player has issues joining the server you might want to send them an invite or tell them to press ‘join game’ on your steam friends user info.

We’re still busy on the servers development so small changes might occur. The overall state on the server is pretty much how it should be.

Enjoy the fraggin madness!

Mumble updated (2)

Mumble 1.2.0 has officially been released (final version, non beta). We’ll be upgrading the server tonight.

Your beta clients will most likely be able to connect to the server without a problem, but we’re advising to upgrade to the latest version anyway.

You can grab your copy of Mumble 1.2.0 right here.

sBNC server replaced.

We have replaced our BNC server. The old sBNC server got uninstalled and the new ZNC server got installed in it's place.

A few pro's of ZNC are:

- Multiple logins from differant locations without killing the client at the other end
- Multiple network support
- More features and modules
- Better web administration

If you were using a SpecialAttack BNC you will need your account recreated. You can PM me trough the known ways to get your account restored.

Server status

We've added a new section in the left hand navivation menu called 'server status'.

In this section you can view all current server hardware and graphics on stuff such as CPU load, bandwidth useage, server performance graphs and more.

New server live soon!

After receiving 2 DOA motherboard we now finally received a 3rd and *working* motherboard for our new server!

So far all testing looks good and we’re in progress of migrating everything. Our expectations are we can go live with the new server by next weekend.

Due to these migration activities you might notice some services being shutdown or unavailable until the migration has been performed.

The reason for a new server is because the current one is giving a lot of problems, slow/unresponsive website, lag inside the game servers etc. The new server is so silly powerful that all these problems will become history.

For the tech people, these are the server specs;

Motherboard: TYAN S5397WAG2NRF
CPU: 2x Intel Xeon Quadcore E5420
Memory: 4x Kingston 4GB, 667MHz, ECC, Fully Buffered, CL5
HDD: 3x Seagate Cheetah 15k6 15.000 RPM SAS (Raid)

#update 1
The new server is in the datacenter, we're now in the proccess of restoring all functionallity.

#update 2
Pretty much all services should be back up. If you find anything not working please throw us a message.

Some news bits

SpecialAttack has made a deal with sister community 69er. We’ll be hosting several servers in co-operation with 69er. The first server launched is an oldskool Counter-strike 1.6 server. The server will be administrated by both SpecialAttack and 69er server admins according to the 69er community rules. For more information on these server rules please visit www.69er.co.uk . You can find the server details by clicking on the Counter-strike link in the left hand menu.

Along with the CS 1.6 deal we have agreed on launching Call of Duty – Modern warfare 2 servers in the near future when the game is being released. More information on this will soon be made public in the new COD: Modern warfare 2 section on the website.

This fall/winter we’re expecting to start up a lot more game servers due to the release of several games we’ve been waiting for. As we’re going to require more server space for this we have decided to buy an entire new machine. This server will be more powerful then our current main game server. The server will be replacing our web server, MrWhite, to ensure better performances on our website and other services (You might have noticed some slowness lately due to VMware <-> hard disk problems). The current MrWhite will be rebuild and re-launched as game server machine. The new server will be bought mainly from donators money – thanks for that!

For our Team fortress 2 bball2 player we have created some more space. We noticed the current 3 bball2 servers were mostly full, so we have added 3 extra ones. The IP’s can be found below.

Donation counter

Our techteam has added a donation counter on the left top side of our website. This donation counter indicates the amount of money we require monthly to keep this community running, and the amount of money we have received so far this month.

Currently the counter shows an incorrect amount of money. The script just started counting a few day's back and we have not yet finished the manual entry of donations. Starting from next month the counter will be 100% up to date.

To donate to our community please follow this link or use the ‘donate!’ button in the top menu of our website. On there you will also find information on what rewards you’ll get for your donation.

Killing floor test server

We've launched a Killing floor test server. We're currently still in the process of tuning it and figuring out it's settings, but from what we gather it should run pretty much perfect with default settings.

If you own Killing floor and feel like playing a game, you're now able to do so on the SpecialAttack server.

Servers details:

85.17.60.102:7707 Specialattack.net ::: Killing floor
